Protection of Migrant Workers and International Standards in Mali

Protecting the rights of migrant workers is an important field of trade union collaboration in Mali. This cooperation was initiated by two major trade union centers, the Confédération Syndicale des Travailleurs du Mali and the Union Nationale des Travailleurs du Mali, which created the Alliance Syndicale Nationale Migration-Mali (ASNAM) and a Centre d'Information et d'Orientation Migration (CIOM).

As part of the operations of the Centre d'Information et d'Orientation Migration (CIOM) set up by the two Malian trade union centers, a training session was organized in partnership with the Friedrich-Ebert Foundation on August 12 and 13, 2023 in Koulikoro, in the presence of the Direction Nationale du Travail.

The main theme of the workshop was the promotion and protection of migrant workers' rights in Mali, as well as strategies for the ratification of ILO Conventions 143 and 97 and the promotion of national laws. Participants included trade unions, local elected representatives and various structures involved in the defense of migrant workers' rights.
