Events in London and Washington discuss latest FES Iran publication
To discuss the current situation around Iran, the FES MENA Peace and Security Project and the local FES offices co-hosted events in London and Washington. Against the backdrop of our latest publication titled “One Year After the Re-Imposition of Sanctions”, the broader implications of the US maximum pressure’ campaign against Tehran as well as the challenges ahead for the nuclear deal and regional security were examined.
On December 12th, the Atlantic Council in Washington hosted David Jalilvand, Kenneth Katzman, and Barbara Slavin for the panel discussion “One Year into the United States' Maximum Pressure Campaign on Iran”. Following welcome remarks by Ambassador Stuart Eizenstat and FES country director Knut Dethlefsen, and moderated by Narges Bajoghli, the conversation covered critical reflections on the implications of sanctions for Iran’s domestic and foreign policy, the objectives of US policy towards Iran as well as the effectiveness of Washington’s sanctions against Tehran. On January 21st, the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) in London held a round table discussion Iran-US: Preventing a Collision Course. Moderated by Ellie Geranmayeh, David Jalilvand, Bijan Khajehpour and Adnan Tabatabai discussed the latest domestic developments in Tehran, the outlook for Iran’s economic situation, Europe’s approach towards Iran and the nuclear deal.
