International Conference, The Water-Energy-Nexus: integrated water and energy planning in the WANA region
Under the patronage of His Royal Highness (HRH) Prince El-Hassan Bin Talal, the “Regional Climate and Energy Project” of FES in the MENA region, together with the WANA Institute and the Wuppertal Institute, organized the international conference "The Water-Energy-Nexus: Integrated Water and Energy planning in the WANA Region". During the two days, twenty international experts, Jordanian experts and different Jordanian stakeholders discussed the potential to integrate solutions for these two very important and pressing questions for Jordan.
The first day of the conference was held at the King Hussien Royal Club with a high level of attendance. The conference started with a very visionary speech by HRH Prince El-Hassan Bin Talal followed by discussions. The International speakers gave their inputs and highlighted questions about the Water-Energy Nexus in their countries and in the region.
The second day was dedicated to the experts in energy and water, with the presence of highly ranked officials from the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Water and Irrigation and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. The opening speeches were given by the Minster of Environment and representatives from the Ministry of Water and Irrigation and the Ministry of Energy. They highlighted the challenges facing each Ministry and its vision to deal with the Water-Energy Nexus. Discussions started with presentations by national experts about Water and Energy challenges that are facing Jordan and how the Water-Energy Nexus should be treated in order to solve such challenges. The presentations were followed by interactive sessions which were facilitated by experts from the Wuppertal Institute.
