We are in Marrakech! : Dignity instead of austerity
Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) takes part in the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB) in Marrakesh, from October 9 to 15, by organizing discussion panels and by supporting its partners from civil society organizations in the MENA region and beyond.
In addition to various sessions in the official IMF/WB forum “Civil Society Policy Forum”, FES (co-)organizes and participates in different sessions in the parallel forums, in particular in the Marrakesh Economic Festival.
Holding IMF/WB annual meetings in an African country is an important opportunity not only to raise issues around debt crisis in the countries in the MENA region and global South. But also, to discuss these issues with the representatives of either the two important international financial institutions and the governments of the rich countries that finance the loans provided by these institutions.
Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, in cooperation with its local partners, is working to find solutions and alternatives to the IMF recipes and conditions that have been unfair for indebted countries and their people for decades.
Our regional project “Economic Policies for Social Justice in MENA” is considered one of the most important projects that provides a platform for critical voices from academics and activists in the region to express their views on debt issues and propose better solutions for debt problems and state deficit in their countries.
For more information about our activities and involvement during the meetings, please find the program .
We look forward for your participation!
