Imène Cherif is Regional Program Manager at Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES). Her responsibility includes developing and implementing the regional economic and social policy working line. She plays a crucial part in guiding the project 'Economic Policies for Social Justice in the MENA region,' with a specific emphasis on addressing social protection and inequality. Her work also centres on the role of International Financial Institutions (IFIs), particularly the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. She is participating in advocacy campaigns that address austerity and calling for the appropriate integration of human rights considerations into all the operations of International Financial Institutions. As the gender focal point, Imène is responsible for developing and implementing FES's gender strategies, and integrating gender efforts into the economic and social justice work line throughout the MENA region. Imène's academic background is in economics, underlined by her passion for social protection, labour economics, feminist economics and political economy.
