Podcast: Neoliberal Policies in the Syrian Conflict and their Regional Implications

With the participation of our colleague Dr Salam Said

In line with the podcast Alternative Dialogues on Syria, produced by the Syrian Center for Policy Research (SCPR), a new series of episodes will be produced in cooperation with the FES Regional Project "Economic Policies for Social Justice in MENA" focusing on neoliberalism.

The first episode explains the concept of "neoliberalism" and discusses its impact on Syria and the MENA region. The conversation features Dr. Salam Said, Director of the Regional Project in FES MENA, who addresses the following topic:

How neoliberal reforms have deepened economic and social inequalities in Syria.

The consequences of unregulated privatization and Syria’s increasing dependency on international aid.

How global and local powers have exploited free-market tools to consolidate their power and wealth.

Proposals for alternative development models based on local production, innovation, and economic sovereignty.

Dr. Said also shares insights from her recent visit to Syria, describing a country shaped by decades of marginalization and war.
