The Regional Competence Center for Energy and Climate Justice is pleased to announce the conclusion of the second edition of the initiative “Celebrating Jane Jacobs in the Local Community”, held in Amman from August 16–18, 2025.

This initiative celebrates women from across the Arab region who have made significant contributions to their local communities. This year, fifteen participants from Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, and Lebanon shared their projects and experiences through three days of presentations and discussions.

Following the jury’s evaluation, three winners were selected:

  • Dr. Abla El Badri (Egypt): international consultant on child and women’s rights, Director General of the “Village of Hope” Association in Cairo, and advocate for the rights of street children.

  • Hafida El Falahy (Morocco): founder of a cooperative initiative reviving intangible heritage such as couscous traditions, while supporting women’s livelihoods and economic independence.

  • Aisha Al-Hawatmeh (Jordan): CEO of the “Jordanian Whisper for Development and Training” foundation, which supports women working in the agricultural sector in Madaba.

The jury also commended the outstanding work of several other participants from Jordan, Tunisia, and Egypt. This initiative reaffirms that the Arab region is rich with creative and inspiring women whose contributions make a real difference in their communities. The FES MENA remains committed to amplifying their voices and sharing their stories in the years ahead.
