Youth Network Conference Bahrain

During the opening of the Workers’ Youth Camp, the Secretary General of the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions, Abdul Qadir Al-Shahabi, stressed the importance of deepening engagement in trade union work and strengthening solidarity between unions and workers, noting that solidarity can transform the weakest link in the economy into its strongest.

The camp, organized by the General Federation in cooperation with the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung from 22 to 24 October 2025, aims to prepare a new generation of capable and committed young trade unionists. Its objectives include building leadership skills, fostering discipline and critical thinking, strengthening a sense of belonging to the labor movement, and promoting trade union values and culture.

Al-Shahabi emphasized the need for continuous evaluation and renewal of trade union strategies based on good governance, effective communication, and optimal use of resources. He highlighted the importance of organizational unity, solidarity, media engagement, and institutional coordination in preventing internal conflicts and strengthening the role of trade unions.

Drawing on historical struggles, including the 1965 labor uprising, he underlined that resisting the marginalization of trade union work remains central today, reaffirming the General Federation’s commitment to defending workers’ rights and advancing collective action.

E-learning platform for training and education of workers

The Friedrich Ebert Foundation launched with the Arab Trade Unions confederation the e-learning project which is related to various causes of workers and unions.

This project is essential to educate an audience of unionists, workers and professionals and to build their capacities and awareness about their rights, especially those in countries affected by conflicts or prohibiting union work.

This program includes a group of videos that summarize and simplify the most important conventions of the International Labor Organization. But in the infographics, there are comparisons between the local legislation in Arab countries in matters of workers' rights. For example: equal pay and social security.
