COP comes to MENA: The UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Egypt

The 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 27) to the UNFCCC will take place in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt from 6 to 18 November 2022. Although this year`s COP is understood as an African COP, and less as a COP of the Middle East, this world event puts a spotlight on the entire region, which is strongly affected by the impacts of climate change, such as desertification, extreme weather events and water scarcity. Therefore, COP27 must become a turning point where lip service becomes actual action and the 1.5 degree global warming limit set by the Paris Agreement comes back into sight, taking into account the needs of the most vulnerable in our societies. The FES Climate and Energy Project MENA advocates for more climate justice, as climate justice and social justice go hand in hand.

Together we can still turn the tide! Join us and follow our COP activities- on our website, on social media or live on site in Sharm el-Sheikh!
