Promoting Environmental Awareness through Art

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung kindly invites you to the artwork presentation “Mishkal – Kaleidoskop I Promoting Environmental Awareness through Art” December 7th, 09.30 am – 15.00 pm Foundry Art Gallery, Gallery 8, Boulevard Crescent, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard

The project “Mishkal – Kaleidoskop I Promoting Environmental Awareness through Art” promotes a nuanced cultural dialogue between artists from Germany and Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Oman, Bahrain, and Kuwait. In joint collaboration, ten female artists from the countries mentioned above have developed artworks on the themes of environmental awareness, climate justice, environmental sustainability, and climate action in order to show their art and present their motivations to an interested audience during the 2023 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 28) in Dubai. Their art will demonstrate how social change towards more sustainability can be made possible together. Against this backdrop, they will focus on the core topics “nostalgia and solastalgia”, “reality and utopia”, and “in-between”. Questions of sustainability and environmental challenges are highly relevant and inspire many artists.

Through the kaleidoscope of art, this event contributes to a mutual understanding of the challenges ahead and to establishing and expanding dialogue and networks for action between cultural practitioners from the Gulf States and Germany.
The event takes place at Foundry which is a hybrid progressive art space founded as a response to the evolving cultural scene in the UAE.
