Feminist Perspectives on the Green Economy in the MENA Region

Research shows that the transition to a green economy will boost job creation; the global net job creation, considering losses from traditional energy sectors, will amount to 24 million jobs according to the ILO.

But action must be taken towards an equitable and just transition that prioritizes the rights of workers. A feminist vision of a green economy in the region will be necessary to ensure that women and men benefit equally from the transition to a greener economy given that employment gains stemming from such a transition will tend to occur in male-dominated fields. This paper explores the latest global and regional developments on the topic and offers insights on the expected challenges in transitioning to a greener economy from a feminist perspective.
