IFJ: regional conference “Support the Independence of the Medias and fundamental freedoms in the region”

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) in partnership with the FES, UNESCO and Foreign Affairs Ministry of Norway and the project “Med Media” financed by the European Union organized from 2nd to 4th of May 2016 in Casablanca.

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) in partnership with the FES, UNESCO and Foreign Affairs Ministry of Norway and the project “Med Media” financed by the European Union organized from 2nd to 4th of May 2016 in Casablanca, a regional conference on the support of the Special Rapporteur on Media in the MENA region.

At the end of this conference, representatives of journalists unions, media organizations of as well as human rights organizations from the region, adopted a unique declaration about Media freedom in the region. This declaration includes a clear engagement toward the principles of Media freedom, press independence and the right of access to information.

This conference is an outcome of a long process of 20 months of consultations and also enrolled all the governments and regional organizations to sign the mentioned declaration.
